A Prototype of the Sega MegaDrive/Sega Genesis was showcased at the Summer Consumer Electronic Show (SCES) in 1994. The prototype showcased all the stages one could play in the final game in various stages of completion. The Bicycle Battle, First Person and Platforming Segments were all implemented at this point including various cut scene sequences.
Eventually, all references to the game would vanish when it was presumably cancelled and the games existence became a distant memory.
After many long years of searching for any playable build of Akira, a legend named Matsuda was able to obtain an authentic prototype of Akira for the Sega still burned in the original Eproms (Recordings).
The Game itself is still Incomplete but two thirds (65%) are still playable and accessed within the game itself according to a code/data log analysis. The other 35% is non-null data containing unused sprites and other data.
Developed by Black Pearl Software in 1993 with an intended release for 1995. None of the levels can be completed in this prototype.
